If you haven’t reviewed the WOOW series in a while, here’s a quick overview. We kicked off with Thanksgiving, and then went on to Praise, Worship, the Word of God and the super combo of Praying God’s Word. In each case, we saw examples in the Bible of how these weapons of warfare are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Today, we will explore what it is that makes them so mighty.
Jeremiah 29:12-14 says “Then you will call upon Me and go pray to Me and I will listen to you. And you will see Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity.”
Thanksgiving, Praise, Worship, God’s Word, Prayer are all means by which we approach the throne of grace and invite the very presence of God Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, the One in whose image we are formed and the God who sustains everything we see and know by His breath. When God shows up, chains simply shatter, rivers make way, mountains move and even the sun stands still.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego experienced this when the fiery furnace burned their bonds but did not so much as singe a hair on their heads (Daniel 3:25). Paul, Silas and their fellow prisoners witnessed this when the earth shook and their chains were loosed (Acts 16:26). The Israelites lived this when they walked through the dry land of the same sea which subsequently vanquished their foes as they attempted to do the same (Exodus 14:21-29).
The presence of God carries a weighty glory that no enemy can withstand. We’re reminded in John 4:24 that “God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Only in the spirit can we truly commune with God. This is why the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, that is in the strength of our flesh. They serve to bring us into God’s presence, for apart from Him we can do nothing.
I invite you today to seek out the presence of God using any of the weapons with which He has furnished us. Then stand still and see the mighty salvation He brings about.
Be blessed,
R
